Red and white plates
A plate with white characters and edging on a red background and beginning with the letter “G” has been created to make farm or forestry tractors more visible (red plate).
This type of plate is allocated to farm or forestry tractors that may be powered by diesel benefiting from a favourable tax system (red diesel). This is called a “tax plate”.
The holder of the registration must have authorisation from FPS Finance providing exemption and permitting him/her to use red diesel. To benefit from this authorisation, the holder must work in agriculture, forestry, fish-farming or horticulture.
The applicant must formally indicate in box X 10 of the registration application form (by signing this annotation) that he/she wishes to benefit from tax-exempt diesel and, as a result, have a “G” plate.
The official wording on the “G” plate registration certificate is “Diesel exempt” (“Gasoil exonéré”).
This application may also be submitted via the insurer. The application will then be sent to the DIV accompanied, where applicable, by the registration certificate.
As soon as the owner receives the new “red” plate, any old plate must be sent back to the DIV.
No administrative inspection is required for the re-registration of these vehicles in the name of the same owner or when transferring between a parent and child, to the other spouse or to the other legal cohabitee.
NB: No inspection is required for a plate transfer. However, the holder may, on a voluntary basis, have his/her inspection certificate and identification report modified to the new registration plate. An administrative check is then carried out and charged for. In this case, a valid inspection certificate and identification report must be presented. Failure to do so will mean that a fresh full inspection will be carried out.
