How the test works
The risk perception test is one of the conditions you have to meet to take your practical test. You also have to pass the test to be able to make an appointment for your practical test.
The risk perception test is a computerised test designed to measure your ability to identify risk situations in a variety of driving conditions.
A video sequence is shown on the screen of your computer. Imagine yourself at the wheel of your car. When you see a risk, click on it.
A risk is an external event that obliges you to adjust your speed, change direction, sound your horn and so on.
During the test, you are required to identify 10 risks, spread across 5 videos. There are films with 0, 1, 2 or 3 risks. You are entitled to 10 clicks. A risk identified correctly = + 1 point. An incorrect click = - 1 click. Once you have used up your 10 clicks, the test stops.
You need to score a minimum of 6/10 to pass.
The risk perception test can be taken without an appointment at the centre of your choice. See the opening times of our centres here.
The cost of taking the risk perception test is 15 €.
If you fail, you can take the test again the same day. There is no limit on the number of times you can try. Having said that, after failing two successive times, you will need to attend 3 hours of lessons at an accredited driving school. You will not be allowed to present yourself to take the test again until you have a training certificate issued by the accredited driving school.
