Tyres

All tyres must have the same characteristics for each axle and be of the same dimensions (also showing the speed and load index), except if different dimensions between the front and rear are specifically stated on the vehicle approval document. For questions relating to tyre dimensions, please contact a dealer for the make of tyre or a professional tyre fitter.

The degree of wear is measured across ¾ of the tread and a maximum difference (left to right) of 3 mm is authorised per axle.

The depth of the main grooves of the tyres must be at least 1.6 mm across ¾ of the tread.

Tyres must not extend beyond the width of the bodywork.

In all cases, there must be a gap between the tread of the tyre and the internal surface of the mudguard.

The speed rating and load index on the tyres must be equal to or greater than those stated in the Approval Report (PVA), on the certificate of conformity or the manufacturer’s instruction manual.

If the dimensions of the tyres fitted do not correspond with the dimensions stated in the PVA, the diameters of the tyres fitted must correspond with the diameters of the PVA, with a tolerance of -2% to +1.5%.

If non-original wheel rims and/or tyres montage are fitted, these must not result in an increase of the track width by more than 2%. However, for off-road vehicles, this tolerance is 4%.

Tyres fitted on vehicles put on the road from 1st January 1998, must have an E or e marking. This is not compulsory for vehicles put on the road before this date.

From 1st January 2004, all new tyres sold must have an E or e marking and all new vehicles must be fitted with this kind of tyre.
